My journey towards wellness

It’s no secret that I’m an open book about my life experiences or challenges. For whatever reason, I’ve never had a problem sharing what’s on my mind., even when it’s uncomfortable, awkward, or totally over the line. Sorry, Donetta!

Today I’d like to share about my journey toward wellness because I believe it might help others and because it’s a part of who I am today. World Dalmanation isn’t just about traveling and pursuing our dreams; this adventure is about the holistic experience of our lives, good and bad.

There’s something evil lurking below.

At first glance, you might assume my life is completely awesome. And why not? You might see our world travels or read about our flexible lifestyle. Those photos on social media are pretty convincing. Based on the surface view it’s easy to think my life is all shits and giggles, but it’s certainly not!

While there have many good times, all has not been good.

There are horrific demons I’ve battled since I was a child; experiences and memories only a few people know about. There’s the catastrophic failures in business to personal bankruptcy haunting my past. Then there’s the pain of loss of my dad to being grossly overweight to fighting depression and suicidal thoughts. There have been some very dark days.

Lurking beneath the calm waters are monsters I was never prepared to handle. They’ve almost killed me at times.

My story isn’t unique though. Millions of people battle their own demons or monsters daily and the reality is there are plenty of others struggling with what’s below the surface. The good news is we can do something about it.

My journey toward wellness begins with transparency.

I’m not sharing this to invite you to an exclusive pity party at Casa Dalman. I abhor the idea of victim mentality or entitlement. There’s a time to get out of your head and get over it. But it IS important to be transparent for personal healing and it could help others who are fighting the fight.

Last year I made some big decisions to be happier and healthier.

In order to begin my journey toward wellness I had to to first take a hard look at my life and get some brutally honest feedback from people I love. Sometimes it resulted in intervention type ass-kickings at my expense. As painful as the truth can be, it was well worth it.

What are some of the radical changes implemented based on my discoveries?

  • Letting go of unhealthy emotions like extreme anger, overwhelming sadness, and an obsessive fear of death.
  • Changing my eating habits by switching to the keto lifestyle over the American obesity pyramid.
  • Giving up drinking booze and drowning my pain almost every night.
  • Walking and exercising instead of watching TV or indulging in social media.
  • Implementing CBD and cannabis into my daily regimen to combat the PTSD, anxiety, and chronic pain.
  • Blowing up my business and starting over to do what I love to do.

It wasn’t easy but there are no regrets. These big changes saved my life and helped me be a happier person. And even though there’s still work to be done, I’m in a way better place.

The darkness is becoming the light.

When you start the morning by looking at a pistol and wondering if today is the day you leave the earth, it’s very dark and surreal. Unfortunately the challenges we encounter in life can be very detrimental and damning. But do not give up.

If you look long and hard enough, you will find light from within the darkness.

There are circumstances in my life I’d never wish upon anyone else, but weirdly enough, I now embrace them like a friend. And no … I’m not smoking the herb right now!!! 😀

There’s a lot to be said about embracing the suck in the coming days on this blog, but I promise you this: you can and will overcome your own struggles. One day you will kill your own monsters lurking beneath the surface. One day you will wake up with a smile because you’re healthier and happier. The light will be there if you allow it to be.

If you ever need to talk to someone reach out to me. If you want to take your own journey toward wellness, we’ll do our best to guide you.

Keep fighting the fight!
